Behind the Scenes
The Philosophy behind
AW-Tiertherapie
Every dog, cat, horse donkey or other pet deserves to be
- treated with respect,
- listened to,
- acknowledged,
- and to be taken seriously.
Regardless if they are docile or a bit “extra” with their behavior – every animal has the right to get treatment.
And all of this with a necessary outlook for the greater picture because an organism is much more than the sum of its parts and deserves to be treated as such.

“One cannot not communicate: Every behavior is a form of communication. Because behavior does not have a counterpart (there is no anti-behavior), it is impossible not to communicate. […]” – Paul Watzlawick
Hallo, my name is Alex 😊👋🏼
I really like this quote because it is on point and demonstrates how important it is to be knowledgeable in body language, especially as an animal practitioner. We have to read our patients and sometimes respond to them in the blink of an eye.
A sensible and empathy driven approach with all beings is my daily prerogative. Put to practice this means I alway have more than enough time for every appointment – which means I’ll always have enough time and space for careful listening because sometimes the crucial clue is in otherwise easily dissmised details.
Integrating different disciplines like naturopathy, Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), physical therapy and training with the treatments prescribed by your pets veterinarian is a labour of love for me.
Does your pet need relief or some support? Then feel free to look around some more or reach out so we can get to know each other 😊

Our Treatments
There’s a right Treatment for every critters case 😊
Inspecting the whole picture every time – since the body works as a unit it should be diagnosed and treated as such.
Thanks to a whole host of Courses, Seminars and Webinars I got the chance to learn about many different techniques and viewpoints. Those have enriched my “arsenal of tools” – this way there is something for every pet and their problem.
Animal physical therapy and bodywork
Physical therapy (PT) (or the in Germany more commonly known term for it – physiotherapy) is a medical discipline that focuses on promoting, maintaining or restoring health through patient education, physical interventions, disease prevention and health promotion.
For my practice as an animal PT I like to focus on helping my patients as the first and most direct step but additionally educating pet owners isn’t far behind. For me helping people to learn how to help their pets themself, if they have minor problems, is equally important as providing my patients relief.
Some of the methods I employ for said relief are (besides the usual, standard massage techniques) fascia releases, manual lymphatic drainage, the Dorn method, kinesiology tape, Low-Level-Laser therapy, combined red light and infrared therapy and pulsed electromagnetic field therapy.

Fitness & Rehabilitation Training
“Brains before brawn!” is something people often say – But I’d argue that brawn trained with brains is oftentimes the solution to body aches and unhealthy movement patterns.
No matter if for preventative care or active rehabilitation, muscles make up a big part of a creatures body and the right training excercises for the right problem can help a patient to get better.

Animal naturopathy
“The art of healing comes from nature, not from the physician. Therefore the physician must start from nature, with an open mind.“ – Paracelsus
He was right – keeping an open mind, listening without jumping to conclusions, making observations, taking the necessary time and paying attention to details is a big part of naturopathy.
Especially with animals, since they can’t advocate for themselves.
All of this in combination with the knowledge about different herbs, plants, medicinal mushrooms and supplements help to find an approach to lots of problems.

Traditional chinese veterinary medicine (TCVM)
Most people have heard about acupuncture but that’s not everything there is to TCVM. This age old practice consists of five pillars:
– acupuncture and moxibustion
– chinese herbal remedies
– dietary guidelines
– various massage techniques from Tuina
– and a school of movements
With animals we mostly use the first four pillars – because honestly who has seen a horse do Taiji or Qi-Gong before? 😉🤭

Feed consultation
Whatever lands in your pets food bowl deserves a closer look because the body can only use the nutrients it gets fed. Which means a pets diet is quite important.
Additionally a rising number of our companions struggle with food sensitivities that need some careful consideration while picking their feed.

Animal Psychosomatics
Psychosomatic medicine is an interdisciplinary medical field exploring the relationships among social, psychological, behavioral factors on bodily processes and quality of life in humans and animals.
Knowledge about those connection and about body language helps to get a clearer and more detailed picture about my patients.
Additionally all this and knowledge as well as experience in R+ helps with medical training and rehabilitation / fitness training.

Medical Training
Medical Training uses the so-called counter conditioning principle and combines it with cooperative care signals to give our pets an opportunity to consent which in turn helps with anxiety.
Thus making getting blood samples, administrating dewormer, applying fly-spray, taking their temperature, cutting their nails, etc. less scary and sometimes even enjoyable 😊

Legal notice
The treatments used in my practice aren’t sufficiently studied and because of that I’m required to inform you that they aren’t recognized by conventional medicine. I also can’t promise successful treatment as required per German law (Heilmittelwerbegesetz). My practice isn’t a substitute for a veterinary doctor but is supposed to be a complimentary offer. Through complimentary medicine, out of the box thinking, the necessary time to listen and to try different, possibly new, approaches. If you already have some diagnosis or findings from your vet don’t hesitate to forward them to me and I’ll coordinate with your vet if necessary. Good collaboration is important to me.
Since I am a ‘small business’ as defined in §19 UStG, I do not bill VAT. Luckily for you that means my prices are gross = net.
Cancellation (fees)
If you are ever unable to make an appointment that’s not a problem. Just let me know 48 hours prior, this way there is no cancellation fees.
If you cancel between 48 and 24 hours before our appointment I reserve the right to charge half the price of the agreed upon service.
A cancellation under 24 hours prior means I reserve the right to charge three-quarter the price of the agreed upon service.
If the appointment is missed because of an act of nature beyond control we can always talk like reasonable adults 😊
Special conditions
Upon inquiry I’m willing to negotiate special rates for the following groups:
- animal welfare organizations
- owners of service animals, police or S&R K9s
- owners of therapy animals
- Senior citizens, students and people on social security
For bigger groups, dog sports clubs, multiple people in a barn, etc. I’m quite willing to drive longer distances and negotiate special rates for the call-out charge.
Area of Service
I’ll visit you at home or in your barn in the areas around:
- Niefern-Öschelbronn
- Pforzheim
- Enzkreis
- Vaihingen-Enz
- Calw
- Bad Wildbad
- Nordschwarzwald
- Schwarzwald Mitte

This makes everything easier on you and less stressful for your companion 😊
